I have previously undertaken some freshwater flyfishing and would like to try saltwater. I would like to know if I should purchase a specific slatwater reel or could I use a seven weight rod and gear to begin? I would also like to book a tour for tuition as a beginner with two freinds. Steve

Hi Stephen, thanks for the enquiry. A 7wt will suit most light saltwater applications. Flathead, bream, salmon etc As far as reels go you should investigate reels with saltwater corrosion resistance and a smooth drag. Some freshwater reels are fine to begin with but salt water is tough on gear, especially when the gear is not made to take it. Cheers, Justin Duggan
